 Parkhouse bus station

The robust RSL Titan unit recently installed at Parkhouse

A brand new bus station with a brand new passenger information support system, maximising accessibility to a recently rebuilt area in Hatfield.

After the remnants of the old Aircraft factory in Hatfield had been cleared and the housing, industry and University areas had been completed a decision was made to include a top of the range information system for people travelling to and from the area. This decision gave the brand new bus stations, both at DeHavilland campus and at Parkhouse a widely accessible, top of the range information system for all its public transport passengers.

RSL provided a series of large, dual sign departure screens, customised versions of the Monolith unit, and an interactive Titan kiosk. Two RSL units the Monolith in the foreground and Titan at the back

This project contained various different elements than a more typical RSL Transport solution; Hatfield wanted Braille information to be included on the Monolith units, aiding the visually impaired with their transport needs.

As with a lot of our interactive units the touch screen operated Titan is compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA); enabling wheelchair users to have easy access to the same information as other people. The units installed were also some of our most robust, designed to withstand and absorb vandalism attacks whilst being weather proof.

At RSL we are keen to satisfy our clients needs, and with this project it was apparent that an adaptation of one of our current line of units, the Monolith , would be required to provide the best information system solution possible for the needs at Hatfield. This project also saw unique 32” LCD screens , requiring tailor made fittings; all of which was assessed and realised at the RSL site survey at the beginning of the project.

Overall there were 6 of these overhanging dual panel data display screens installed, one panel intended as an advertising board whilst the other a high brightness data display screen. Along with these there were 2 Monolith constructs, one inside and one out with an additional RSL Titan unit.

There is currently a maintenance contract in place with locally placed engineers, with the ability to remotely monitor/fix the majority of issues ensuring RSL systems have maximum up time.

We have completed lots of such projects for many of the major authorities across the UK, and even some in Europe, To read more on our Transport involvements see here.
