Prison Software
This multilingual prison information system is based on the Mills 'grid' software and was designed to provide a much needed information service for inmates around the UK.
There is a shockingly large percentage of inmates that have little to no understanding of the English language, which made communications between prisoners and prison officers difficult and at times impossible. RSL prison designed systems feature most major languages and accommodates for a literacy level 1 reading ability; meaning all necessary information is available to everyone.

There are a minimum of 34 different topics of information available on the opening page and information to a specific prison can easily be added.
Some of the content available includes information on bullying, health, diet and education, with the information being transferred from the ‘prison pamphlet information guide for prisoners’.
The systems have been installed at various locations around the UK with the first located in Pentonville prison. Two units were installed on different landing areas and one unit has recorded over 1,000 hits per month. Such a system provides a much needed service which can greatly improve prison atmosphere and general communications within the prison environment; an extremely welcome addition to any prison.

The units record usage statistics and display graphical information in terms of how many people used it, in what language and which information areas they accessed.
The browser is secure with restricted internet access and a sturdy hardware unit ensures that the unit is very protected from both hacking attempts and physical vandalism.
