“RSL complete yet another successful project aiding the public transport industry; with a large departure screen and controlling system at Retford Bus Station”
The new passenger information system saw the completion of a brand new bus station for Nottingham county council. The system consists of 7 stylish 28 character LCD displays with 1 static illuminated ‘exit’ sign for the coaches.
With the council providing the data RSL uploaded the bulk of it onto the system via a comprehensive administration website; with additional data being manually imputed whenever which is live within a few minutes. New information overwrites old information without any interruption to the service.
RSL provide an interface for use by the Station which is easy to navigate. This interface has been provided to:- Impose passenger news messages on the signage
- Monitor sign output to make sure the system is working as intended
- Mimic sign output for a given date/time

To accompany the 8 signs RSL included a rugged journey planning kiosk designed to manage the signage; aswell as allowing customers to accurately check and plan their journeys through a simple yet effective interface that also allows secure access to a variety of nominated websites other than Traveline and Nottinghamshire County Council.
The system also includes fault management facilities which:
- Report any sign and kiosk failure, either full or partial.
- Monitors the ‘health’ of the signs and kiosk
- Has the ability for the persons responsible to report problems manually via a computerized interface.

‘The new Retford bus station provides the Nottinghamshire public with a state of the art facility of which they can be proud’.
- Commented Paul Wilson of Nottinghamshire County Council.
